Makeup Can Be Harmful To Health

Makeup can be harmful to your health

For most women, makeup is one of the biggest beauty aids and is a great help in improving the appearance of your skin and face. For years, the beauty industry has worked to develop and produce thousands of beauty products for every woman’s needs.

However, ignorance of their proper use or poor makeup habits have led to an increase in skin problems. For this reason, it is very important to be aware of things that should be avoided when using these products.

Here are a few ways how makeup and their misuse can be harmful to your skin and health.

1. Distribution of cosmetics

It is normal to share clothes and accessories with friends and family. This makes many women believe that there is nothing wrong with sharing makeup as well, but be careful!

Sharing lipsticks, eyeliners, powders, and even sprays increases the chance of viral infections   such as conjunctivitis and cold sores.

In addition to this, if another person suffers from acne, for example, you also run the risk of getting his or her bacteria on your skin.

2. Use of false eyelashes

false eyelashes and makeup irritate the eyes

Long, bushy false eyelashes give a more expressive and beautiful look, which makes many women try on false eyelashes to be glued. Using them on your eyelids can be harmful, as many of these products contain formaldehyde, which can irritate the eyes.

Improper attachment of loose lashes can cause genuine lashes to weaken and break.  If you really want lashes, they would be best put on by a professional.

3. Makeup for face sleeping

Many women arrive home tired in the evening after work or partying and don’t even think about removing their makeup. Big mistake! This method prevents the skin from getting enough oxygen to repair itself when the body is resting,  which can lead to problems the next day.

Faces, especially features close to the eyes, often suffer from this defect.

Cosmetics clog pores and acne can arise as a result. On top of all that, some products cause eye irritation as they can get into your eyes during the night without you noticing.

Many makeup brands contain oils and waxes that can clog the glands and cause inflammation, such as conjunctivitis.

4. Outdated makeup

Just like food, makeup comes with a best before date, which tells you the life cycle of the product before the ingredients spoil and become harmful. After the date, the texture of the product is likely to begin to change and should no longer be used on the skin.

Good quality makeup often lasts longer, but it still has a best-before date that should be respected. Using an outdated product can cause irritation or inflammation due to bacteria.

After the best before date is gone, these products also often lose their pleasant aroma and their composition is likely to have changed.

5. Using a liner on the inside of the eyelid

The eyes, like many parts of the body, have natural bacteria that can be good or bad, depending on their stimulation and function. That’s why it’s important to keep your makeup hygienic.

Using a liner inside the eyelid can bring bacteria into the eye,  which increases your risk of developing inflammation and blocked sebaceous glands. It has been estimated that 30% of the eyeliner particles enter the eye when the product is applied to the inner edge of the eyelid.
