This will give you soft, odorless and more absorbent towels naturally

It often happens that a new towel makes it difficult to dry the skin, and it may also feel a little rough. This is due to the effect of the substances used in the dyeing of the towels on their composition. This is why many people are used to washing new towels in hot water before using them, as they are more effective and softer.

The truth about towels is the same despite the price. Regardless of the raw materials used to make them – expensive or cheap fiber – they become slightly odorous as a result of use, as they accumulate moisture. However, more can happen, as the absorption of moisture also allows bacteria to accumulate on the towels. What can be done about this then? Don’t worry, as in the following we will provide a very easy solution for handling towels.

What raw materials do you need?

  • 2.5 dl white vinegar (or diluted vinegar)
  • 1.25 dl baking soda (ie sodium carbonate)
  • Hot water

Turn on your washing machine for this treatment. You can put in there those new towels that you want to soften and make more absorbent, or those whose smell you want to remove and whose absorbency has deteriorated.

First, put your machine on a hot water program, and pour a glass of vinegar into the towels. Then turn on the washing machine and let it run for a full revolution. That’s all, the first part is very easy!

The next step is also simple: put the machine back on the hot water program, but this time include baking soda. It is important that you do not mix vinegar and baking soda to make them work at different stages. Wait for the program to end, and then hang your laundry to dry. You will see good results as soon as your towels dry!

Why are these two products suitable for deodorizing and increasing the absorbency of towels?

Science explains the effectiveness of this simple method. Sometimes, however, one trusts commercial products more easily, such as detergents or fabric softeners, and assumes that they give the best results. In reality, however, the opposite is true, i.e.  too many chemicals damage the fabric itself, and this causes the towels to become less absorbent as well as cause faster wear.

  • White vinegar: this product contains acetic acid, which is an excellent substance for removing bacteria and for removing liquid accumulated in the fabric. At the same time, it has a softening effect on textiles.
  • Sodium bicarbonate: As you may already know, sodium carbonate  (or more commonly known as baking soda) is a natural substance that is perfect for daily home cleaning. It works great for disinfection, removing dirt and grease, and neutralizing odors. Its great abilities come above all from its alkalizing properties, and baking soda is a more effective product in this sense than any other detergent.

This is how you keep your towels really dry and odorless

towels and baking soda

You may have previously read or heard about the special abilities of these two products in cleaning. You should really turn to them as the benefits are great. You will notice a big difference in your towels, and they will also stay in better condition. Think about all the moisture that can accumulate on towels as the weeks go by. This can cause an accumulation of harmful bacteria, which in turn can cause allergies and other body reactions that should always be avoided.

Did you know this about your towels?

  • Bacteria thrive very well in humidity, so every time you take a shower or bath, hang your towel in a place where it can dry properly. It is certainly not necessary to wash the towels after each use, but they should dry thoroughly so that no moisture remains in the fabric. If dehydration does not occur in full, the bacteria will begin to appear and will also be accompanied by unpleasant odors as well as health risks.
  • Also pay attention to the amount of detergent when washing textiles – don’t use it too much in vain, as this is of no use. In the long run, detergents actually behave so that they accumulate in your towels, which makes them harder and prevents the fibers of the fabric from absorbing water. Therefore, use only the amount of detergent recommended in the packaging.
  • As for commercial rinse aids, we recommend that you use white vinegar instead. It is a natural alternative that softens the fabric much better than fabric softeners. It also does not produce any side effects on your towels at all. They thus last longer, feel more comfortable and absorb moisture more efficiently. Also keep in mind that you should be especially careful with towels and clothes used by children, for example. Instead of using chemical products such as fabric softeners or detergents, choose options that contain natural ingredients.

Now that you know that baking soda and vinegar (and even lemon) are perfect products for treating textiles, try them unprejudiced! They are a great way to take care of your daily cleaning routines at home, also for your health.

An added benefit of all this is that you put less strain on the environment if you choose these substances instead of harmful chemicals. Or are you convinced enough to try these splendors? So switch to baking soda and vinegar and you will be able to effectively remove the bad smell of your towels as well as increase their absorbency!
